September, 2011 Meeting - in case you missed it.

Don Carr explained that the management at the Museum had changed and that the new management would like us to become “Friends of the Museum”. This will cost us $5/yr and will allow one free visit to the museum. He mentioned that for this year the Club will pay the dues but for next year it will be added to the membership dues. They would like us to have a display case on the premises showing our work and that the Library cupboards will be accommodated.

Guest Speaker Malcom High from the UK gave a talk on “Laser cutting and more for Model Engineers”.

He first described the process and how it compared to waterjet cutting and then went into detail about the edge finish on different metals.

In the second part of the talk he went into detail on the parts that his company has in stock and on .dxf file. While the majority are for model locomotives frames and tender parts with box joint edges, there are also other items.

Lastly he talked about parts he could make to one’s own design which are sent to him in .dxf format.
