April, 2010 MEETING - in case you missed it
Bill Huxhold has made further progress on the model drill press being made into a milling machine. The saddle, knee and table is now finished. He described how the knee elevating system was made and explained the making of the leadscrews and nuts. He used Delrin to make the dials and he demonstrated how they were made and how he used a wax crayon to highlight the lines and numbers.
John Chappell showed a home made spherical turning attachment – its handle being the first job for the tool. He also showed some hole saws he made for cutting cardboard and plastic.
Helmut Heinzinger brought in the base and crankshaft for a 3 cylinder compound engine he is making without castings. He talked about the method he used to build up the crankshaft, first using Loctite then machining the main shaft. We look forward to seeing further progress.
Phil Regan designed and built a tool setting gauge for his CNC mill. He explained how the resultant values are put into the program. As well he showed a QC tool post he made for his Sherline lathe.
George Cockburn brought in some rolling stock for his engine that was scratch built from plans. He used styrene for most of the components.
Robert Wyss showed a QC tool holder made from Aluminum for the post he has designed. He explained how the Dorian and piston type systems work and how he made the locking part for his unit.
Gerry Reed brought in a powered rear view mirror to show the motors used for adjustment. He then explained the how he modified the steps leading to the front door of his house and showed the punch and die used to modify the railings he installed.
An auction was held to sell some ME’s and other surplus magazines. It raised about $230.
The TSME Movie was shown. It was unchanged from the last showing a few years ago but there are many new members who had not seen it.
